Cathedral Guides & Welcomers
The volunteer guides of the Cathedral of St Stephen are a very enthusiastic and energetic group. Training is provided for new members as well as on going formation for guides. If you are interested in art and architecture, the religious and local history of Brisbane then you might like to consider joining this group. Contact the cathedral office for more information.
Talk with us about becoming a volunteer welcomer and guide at the Cathedral of St. Stephen. An information session will be held, followed by a comprehensive six-day training program. After this you will be supported by a guide or welcomer for six months prior to becoming a fully-fledged guide or welcomer. So come to an information session and find out more. Contact Carmel Devery at the Cathedral office on 3324 3030 or e-mail deveryc@bne.catholic.net.au if you’d like to share in this mission! |
Information Day for prospective guides and welcomers at the Cathedral of St Stephen
The guides and welcomers’ group at The Cathedral of St. Stephen warmly invites you to attend an Information Day on becoming a tour guide and/or a welcomer at the Cathedral.
When: Thursday 20 April 2023 from 9.30 am.
Where: Hanly Room, Francis Rush Centre, Cathedral of St. Stephen, Elizabeth St.
Come and listen to the guest speakers, be taken on a tour with experienced guides, and ask questions about anything you wish to know.
Being a guide and welcomer is a wonderfully rewarding, enriching experience. The Cathedral, The St. Mary Mackillop chapel, and the precinct occupy an important and special place in the spiritual life and wider history of Brisbane and Queensland.
Come and be part of the team. Your training will cover the artwork, history, and architecture, and you’ll discover the unique and beautiful stained-glass windows and their significance. Learn how to share and impart this knowledge with all the many visitors and tour groups who come to the Cathedral.
The Information Day is open to anyone: e.g.: retired people who may be missing the sense of community and camaraderie which working life brings, teachers perhaps who may be retiring at the end of the year, or anyone with some spare time on their hands who would enjoy becoming part of the friendly and supportive team of Cathedral guides and welcomers.
We look forward to welcoming you. Please register your interest with Carmel Devery at the Cathedral Office via ph. (07) 3324 3006 or by emailing: deveryc@bne.catholic.net.au
